Make a Difference
Here are ways that your donations continue to help support people with spinal cord injuries and their families.
Over the past year...
- our peer mentors have communicated with 30 new individuals this past year via phone, email, and zoom.
- our volunteers logged 1,345 hours connecting one on one with individuals to provide support and resources, leading weekly support groups, helping out at social events and fundraisers, and attending education programs.
- SCIboston held 11 different support group offerings in which 289 individuals attended over the past year. In addition to our SCI/D support group we’ve created dedicated spaces for Spanish speakers, women, men, new injuries, and a nutrition group in partnership with Spaulding’s dietitians. We also have support groups for those who have a loved one with SCI including: family members, significant others, and children. SCIboston also offers a series of After Dark groups to discuss relationships and intimacy.
- SCIboston provided a monthly Saturday Education Series where participants learn from experts about different topics and research related to spinal cord injuries. This past year included topics such as: Urinary Health, Adaptive Sports, information about returning to work and school, Adaptive Driving, and presentations by Researchers from Mass General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Network.
- SCIboston organized social events including virtual holiday parties, a documentary movie night (Reinventing the Wheel) with a Q&A from the producers, The Impossible Dream Sail, and the Rods and Mods Car Show.
